Fagus at the TES SEN Show 7th & 8th October

Visitors to the Fagus Stand (185) at the TesSEN Show (Business Design Centre, October 7/8) will be able to enjoy an exclusive 25% discount on this new resource which has been developed by a team of educational psychologists at Beech Lodge School. Named after the Latin for Beech Tree - the tree of learning – Fagus has been designed to monitor and support emotional and social progress in children and was launched in June this year after successful trials in schools across the north of England.

Fagus enables teachers to measure developmental age against chronological age, monitor progress and set goals. It increases understanding of a child’s behaviours and offers guidance on how to work with each individual to change these behaviours which in turn enables academic success. The Fagus toolkit comprises of 13 printed developmental guides, each one relating to a social and emotional domain, a training manual and supporting online tools including developmental checklists, profiles and goal attainment records.

Alastair Lidster, the Educational Psychologist who lead the team which created Fagus, believes it can be a valuable tool for teachers and SENCOs working with many children, particularly those with behavioral challenges associated with developmental trauma and attachment issues. He comments:

“I have worked as an educational psychologist for nearly 20 years and I have found the developmental frameworks available for pre-school children to be very helpful when understanding a young child’s progress. However, there was nothing quite like this for school age children in the educational resource market. Fagus was born out a need we identified while working with children at Beech Lodge and we are delighted that this knowledge can now be shared with Teachers and Educational Psychologists around the country.”

Pupils at Beech Lodge School – an innovative school offering an alternative educational approach in Berkshire – have been enjoying the benefits of Fagus for over a year. It has also been piloted in schools in Yorkshire & Humberside in a DfE funded project with adoption charity PAC-UK and reviewed and endorsed by the psychology team at Royal Holloway College, University of London.

Fagus is available to purchase at the TesSEN Show at a specially discounted price including one year’s free online licence.
